The general membership of the Lancaster Historical Society meets
several times each year, often (but not always) at
the historic MKT Depot. The Depot is located next to
the railroad tracks on Pecan Street, just east of Centre Street. Refreshments are
usually served at 3:30 PM, and the meeting follows at 4:00
PM. Visitors are always welcome!
These events are history now, but we'll leave this information
so you can get an idea of the type of programs we offer each
year.

| June 24 -
OktoberFest Planning |
|
LHS Secretary Carol Strain-Burk had
planned a great program for this meeting, but our speaker broke
his leg and was hospitalized just days before our meeting.
Rather than cancel the meeting, we went forward and used the
time to allow OktoberFest co-chair Lynnette Taff to report on
the committee's progress.

16 - Black History Tour of Lancaster |
|
Teri Wilson of Lancaster
ISD will uncover the history of schooling for African American
students in Lancaster and Dallas County in the late 1800s until
1963. We'll learn about the tradition and history of early
schooling at Rocky Crest and the schools which preceded
it. LISD is providing a bus so we can take a driving tour
to visit Rocky Crest and other places that played an important
role in this part of our history.
Refreshments will be served at 3:30 PM, and
will include samples of the food and beverages that will be
offered at OktoberFest. The bus will start loading at 4:00
PM, so don't be late or you'll miss the tour.
After our program, VP Dee Hinkle will
report on a new undertaking - the Historic Home of the Month
designation. And we'll also vote on possible amendments to
our Bylaws.
The program is sure to be lively, and the
business to be discussed is important, so please make a point of
joining us for this meeting.
