We had so much fun at our New Year's Eve party
that we had to devote a whole new page for the photos.

| Christmas Parade -
December 2006 |
|
LHS took home an award for Best Antique Auto
in Lancaster's Christmas Parade of Lights. Thanks to Dee
Hinkle for organizing our entry, and to the Dallas Model A Ford
Club for loaning us the great car.

| Christmas
Open House - December 2006 |
 |
LHS was proud to participate in the
Annual Lancaster Lights & Tour of Homes. Volunteers
spent hours draping lights and garland throughout the historic
MKT Depot and adjacent Rose Garden. |
|
The "Lancaster Express" was a
bright beacon standing next to the Rose Garden, and lighting the
way for our guests. Many thanks to Lancaster's Parks &
Recreation Department for allowing us to use this display, which
in previous years has been a feature at Heritage Park. |
 |
 |
Pat Mungenast stands near the door ready to
greet our guests. The white screen to the right appears
blank in this photo, but throughout the evening, it featured a
slide show compiled by Dr. Mary Sykes. The Power Point
show included many photographs from Lancaster's past, including
photos of buildings long since demolished. We hope to add
some of those photos to this website soon. |
|
Standing next to the cast iron stove and
wearing period costume, LHS Secretary (and Lancaster's Mayor Pro
Tem) Carol Strain-Burk looks like she could have walked off the
pages of the old Lancaster Herald newspaper, which reported on
the opening of the MKT Depot in December 1888. Carol's
ancestors were among the earliest settlers in Lancaster, and
were likely on-hand for the big event. |

lovely blue pantsuit). |

Guests enjoyed a variety of tasty treats,
including homemade cookies, fudge, and more. |

| OktoberFest -
October 2006 |
 |
Lancaster's First Lady Marge Tillotson shows
off her prize-winning stein as judges Janie Fricke and Susan
Anderson look on. OktoberFest Chair Andy Mungenast and
BierMeister Tim Taff are in the background.
We have so many photos that we gave OktoberFest its very
own page. Click here to
check it out.

| Juneteenth
Parade - June 2005 |
 |
The Lancaster
Historical Society was the only equestrian entry in the 2nd
annual Best Southwest Juneteenth parade on Saturday, June 18,
2005. .Many thanks to Dave & Frances Hitchcock and
Chuck & Rosa Finsley for providing the beautiful team of
Suffolk draft horses and wagon, which allowed members of LHS to
ride in the parade in a style appropriate to the period of the
original Juneteenth. On June 19, 1865, Union General
Gordon Granger and his troops arrived on Galveston Island to
bring the news of the abolition of slavery and emancipation of
slaves to Texas. Juneteenth celebrations began in Texas
the next year. |
|
LHS secretary Lynnette Taff was the
designated pooper-scooper following behind our entry in the
Juneteenth parade. Dr. Karla Brewer, Director of Human
Resources at LISD, manages to talk on the phone while doing her
part to help with the clean-up.

| Dedication
of Rose Garden Benches - June 2005 |
 |
LHS President Patricia Siegfreid-Giles, in
one of her trademark hats, makes a few remarks during the
dedication ceremony for our new Rose Garden benches..
|
Inside the MKT Depot, LHS member John
Collins shows his rose to Dave & Frances Hitchcock after the
bench dedication. Each person who donated a bench was
presented with a rose and given the opportunity to tell
something about the person in whose memory they donated a
bench.

A view of the Rose Garden with the benches
lined up in preparation for the dedication.
|
| This bench was donated in memory of the young
niece of LHS member Pat Mungenast. Each bench bears a
small plaque inscribed with the names of the honoree and the
donor.
